There is something so special about those first weeks at home. Of finding your new stride amongst sleep deprivation, while simply enjoying the early days.

While I am mostly a Canmore-based wedding photographer, I so enjoy documenting families in their homes. My approach is more documentary, or perhaps they call it lifestyle, I’m not up to date on the terms these days. But its simply capturing those little moments. Of simplicity rather than set up. Of interaction over anything else.

This is what I so loved about this family’s newborn session. In their miner’s home tucked into a hillside in Canmore. Photos in a nursery with directional window light, marveling over little newborn toes with his older sister who wasn’t entirely sure what to make of it all yet, of meandering a backyard.

It was about family portraits on the bed, their dog delighting in all the love he received. Of the chaos and quiet in the newborn days.
