Amanda + Victor
Winter Proposal on Frozen Lake Louise
Oh how delighted am I to share this winter proposal at the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, weeks after the lake froze over.
Victor had initially planned to propose to his girlfriend on their third anniversary, however, on account of provincial restrictions put into place, we moved the day up a touch so they could safely celebrate with family before the restrictions came into effect. He wanted a grand mountainous backdrop, that was fully enveloped in winter, with some privacy. He wanted the proposal to be a surprise. To not be part of a session, but to happen (seemingly) organically during one of their many days exploring the outdoors together during a weekend in the mountains. So Victor and I corresponded daily, discussing possibilities of hidden locations overlooking the Three Sisters in Canmore. Or perchance highlighting the changing of the seasons at Lake Minnewanka, whose waters were still open at the time. Or perhaps overlooking Castle Mountain halfway between Banff and Lake Louise.
As the temperatures plummeted, and schedules were reviewed we ultimately decided on Lake Louise. Not only is it perchance the most iconic winter backdrops in all of the Canadian Rockies, but it was easily accessible from where they were staying at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. While there was some concern of how busy the lake can be, on this particular day we arrived to a nearly empty parking lot, and the most beautiful scene as they flooded the rink and billowing clouds arose from the lake.
Sam and I carved out a path for them away from the main walking path on Lake Louise. There we waited as they made their way outdoors. And so they walked to the spot marked. Facing each other, he pulled out cards with some written words, a testament to the last three years. Then he dropped to his knee, and she said yes.
A simple day, planned carefully, and such a delight to be part of. If you are planning a proposal at Lake Louise in Banff National Park and looking to have it photographed, I would love to be in touch.
