Sarah + Mike
February Yoho Lounge Emerald Lake Wedding

Planning a February wedding at Emerald Lake Lodge means being flexible with the weather that may come your way. A winter wedding  in the Canadian Rockies maybe 5C, sunny, with a fresh dusting of snow, or perchance -40C with a snowstorm that shrouds the mountains. Sarah and Mike were fortunate that despite the -20C temperatures, the mountains were displayed beautifully after a snowstorm came through the week before. The trees stood tall, with a picturesque cap of snow on every bough. While the scenery was perfection, the low temperatures caused for the planned outdoor winter wedding ceremony to be moved indoors for everyone’s comfort.

So on this mid-February day, their parents, siblings, and grandmothers gathered in the historic Yoho Lounge in Emerald Lake Lodge’s main lounge. Their ceremony a backdrop of roughly hewn ancient wood, with vaulted ceilings adding to the coziness. Lit by window light, reminiscent of perhaps a century ago when weddings were held in the parlours of personal homes, a simple affair that was celebrated so beautifully.

We left the warmth of the lodge to explore the nearby mountainous landscapes. From wide open fields look back towards iconic Mount Burgess, to venturing out on frozen Emerald Lake, following the path for corss-country skiers, and lastly by the bridge by which Emerald Lake continuous to the Kicking Horse River. Truly, a perfect February wedding in the Canadian Rockies. A variety of warmth and cool light. Of celebrating those closest in a year where larger events weren’t doable. Of meeting in the middle of home being Vancouver and Calgary, in a place as timelessly beautiful as Emerald Lake.

Congratulations you two.
