Ashleigh and Steve met here in Calgary but are getting married next year on the east coast and it is going to be a marvelous day for them.

Anna and Joe – The Sampling

Let’s start by getting one thing straight. Anna bakes really awesome cookies. I am considering doing photography exclusively in exchange for Anna’s cookies – so you might want to get to know her if you want me to photograph something for you.

The second thing we need to get straight. Anna is also a rocking Calgary photographer. You should see her work here.

Terra and Terence – Vancouver Couple Photography

Can I start by saying there is an unfair proportion of talent between these two individuals? I am pretty sure their talent is made exponentially more awesome by being together – like their names! Terra is the fabulous wedding and event planner behind Inspired Occasions and Terence is the creativity behind TLAW Photography right here in Calgary.

Turned out our west coast vacations were happening at the same time so of course we had to schedule a little photo shoot… and Japa Dogs, made popular through the Winter Olympics.

Speaking of the Olympics can I just explain to you the crowning moment of that event for myself? So I was sitting on the edge of my chesterfield (yes, I just called a sofa a chesterfield so I sound über Canadian, as I sit here drinking Canadian Maple Tea), and we had just gone into overtime. Now you have to imagine me literally gripping the edge of my seat, probably squealing/yelling/chanting while half near tears at the thought of losing and all of my Canadian pride going down the drain to admit defeat to my American friends. There was no way I was going to look away from that screen even if there was a jumbo jet landing in my living room. No way. So, Iginla has the puck, he passes it to Crosby AND…. *blue screen* “Your television has timed out due to inactivity. If you wish to continue watching please press ‘Continue’”. No flipping way! It is a wonder the remote still has that button. Well, I was greeted to cheering and a sea of red and white. Hooray Canada! Sorry I missed out on that glorious moment!

Back to Japa Dogs. So Japa Dogs are hot dogs with a serious twist and difficult to pronounce names. If you ever find yourself in Vancouver you must have one.

Now back to the couple.

Didn’t get enough of their awesomeness? That’s okay! Because next week I will be posting some images taken with my Mamiya from this session!

Suzy and Simon + George – Banff Engagement Photography

Yesterday I had the pleasure to meet with Suzy, Simon and George in beautiful Banff. Despite a constant onslaught of mosquitoes, avid birders that insisted seeing five great blue herons was a more important way to spend one’s time and some rather menacing clouds I believe this may be one of my favourite sessions of all time. Needless to say I can hardly wait for their wedding this coming weekend at the Fairmont Lake Louise. Check back in a week’s time for more of this gorgeous family!

Charlene and Les – Canmore Couple Photography

Les and Charlene were married last week in their backyard in the beautiful town of Canmore. Sometimes, I can not see why people do it differently – those quaint, intimate ceremonies are just so amazing. Les had contacted me earlier in the summer about the possibility of doing a couple session with himself and Charlene after the wedding day. I was given the heads-up that they might be a bit of a challenge to photograph – nothing could have been farther from the truth.

Les and Charlene – Canmore Couple Photography

I should add useless fact #21 about myself. I am a night owl and not an early riser. But this might change.

This morning I was up at the crack of dawn to drive to Canmore for a session with recently married Les and Charlene. It may have taken the aid of a large Tim Horton’s coffee but it was entirely worth it. The early morning mountain air, the sweet light, the sheet of dew. Oh it was just divinity.

Also, if you are wanting to contact me this weekend it may take me a couple of days to reply as I am participating in the 60km Weekend to End Women’s Cancers. If you happen to see the hundreds of walkers in Calgary either Saturday or Sunday honk your horn, break out the sprinklers on your front lawn, or smuggle one of them (aka. me) into your car to the last pit stop (okay maybe not so sure about that last one). Every word or jester of appreciation is awesome!

Michelle and Paul – Calgary Engagement Photographer

As you may be able to tell from the length of this, I have kind of fallen in love with this session. Michelle and Paul were just so much fun to hang out with, talk about their upcoming wedding and enjoy the gorgeous Alberta summer evening. In addition to humouring me with some of my crazy ideas, they were kind enough to allow me to experiment with an antique camera from the early 1920s and I am so glad they did.

You may also notice over the next few weeks some changes with the blog – it is a work in progress!

Tammy and Jonas – Calgary Engagement Photography

Time for a big stretch! I feel like I just came out of photographic hibernation.

My is it good to be back and shooting! Not to mention kicking things off with this rocking couple – Tammy and Jonas.

Turns out Tammy has actually been head over heels in love with Jonas since the tender age of 13. Now, being a typical male it took him several years to catch onto this. But are we ever glad he did! :)

Thank you so much Tammy and Jonas for letting me photograph you and get to know you better. I stand by my statement that you two are the most adorable couple this side of the big pond!

Vanessa and Greg – Calgary Engagement Photography

This may just be one of the greatest loves stories I have heard to date.
Turns out Greg had a mean crush on Vanessa throughout elementary school. Now, of course like any good love story, there is the other guy. That’s right, the note-passing nine-year old boyfriend. Due to said rival suitor, they graduated, went on there way and that seemed to be the end of it. But of course, through the magic of facebook and a mutual friend, they reconnected and well… things started to happen.

Several weeks ago, Greg sent Vanessa on an epic cross city hunt which led her to his Nose Hill Park.

The final location was Greg,

down on one knee.

and she

replied

“YES!”

So there always happens to be stories from the e-session itself. As I was peeking at a possible angle to photography a shot (this is after Vanessa has been mentioning she has been hearing something rustling around at which point Greg and I just laugh at her), there is this crazy amount of rustling and lo and behold not 10 feet from me a pheasant comes squalling (I really can’t describe it.. half flight half run) from the brush. Needless to say I pretty much jumped out of my runners. There goes Thanksgiving dinner!
