Happy New Year!

2010! Wow! Now, the question of the day: is this to be pronounced ‘twenty-ten’ or ‘two-thousand-ten’? I personally am still completely on the fence, not as if it matters too much as it takes me until at least June to write the correct date.

So. Here we are starting a whole new year which is going to be awesome! No seriously. I am looking so forward to working with amazing couples, going on some amazing trips, meeting tons of new people and growing as a photographer and a person.

I had a few spare hours of the Christmas break to edit images from a trip I took to Iceland in late summer of 2008 and I thought I would share.

Levi – Calgary Family Photography

I wouldn’t usually categorize myself as a family photographer however I couldn’t turn down Annie when she emailed me to photograph her absolutely adorable boy (she even attached a photo… there is now way anyone could say ‘no’ to this face! They are in big trouble when he grows up I think!). So between me heading off to Thailand for a month and a half, weddings, and their family trips we finally scheduled a time to meet. Right before his first birthday.

Thanks a ton you three! I had a wonderful time getting to know you better and photographing your gorgeous family

These next two crack me up. One year olds are typically quite animated but Levi had me grinning from ear to ear throughout the entire session with his antics.

It is not fair. I declare. It is not fair! Why do the boys always get those long eyelashes?

Yes, these are all his eyes. Not touched in any way. I couldn’t help but commenting he had ‘thai eyes’. Thai kids have eyes that are just like mirrors.. so does Levi. Jealous!

Hopefully this works for everyone. My first animated GIF up on the blog :) Levi was quite engrossed in the grass so I waited patiently, trying all the tricks in the book and then some to get his attention so as soon as he did look up I think I pretty much sat on the shutter and this was the result.

I’m Off!

I am off! That’s right, in less then 24 hours I will be on my way to Thailand for a month and a half. I can barely wait but at the same time I am starting to think I should never procrastinate packing as it is 2AM and I don’t even have a stitch of clothing in a suitcase. Actually, where is my suitcase?

For one and half months I have the privilege volunteering at a baby home in the very northern region of Thailand, Chiang Saen to be exact, and soak up some really warm weather and just take an overall break from the hustle and bustle of the past four months. I will be substituting the books, exams, and commute for really really good Thai food (I have sworn myself to swear off pop to make up for the extra food intake!), long early morning walks (early morning? Brittany? Yes, I can wake up before 10AM!), and lots of awesome moments with the kids.

I am hoping to have weekly access to the internet, where I will check my email and if I am really lucky I might even upload some of the weekly shots. So keep your eye on the blog!
