Les and Charlene were married last week in their backyard in the beautiful town of Canmore. Sometimes, I can not see why people do it differently – those quaint, intimate ceremonies are just so amazing. Les had contacted me earlier in the summer about the possibility of doing a couple session with himself and Charlene after the wedding day. I was given the heads-up that they might be a bit of a challenge to photograph – nothing could have been farther from the truth.

Family of Six – Calgary Family Photographer

So first let me reassure you all that I am alive after the 60km walk for the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers and blister free! It was an absolutely amazing weekend and the weather held out perfectly. If you have had any inclination to do it next year, do! You are kind of mildly pampered and get to explore some nice little niches of your city all while raising money for a great cause!

I am so excited to share these. So excited that when I had just finished putting together the images and this little write-up, the power went out for an hour and all I could think about was how much I needed internet access to get it up. I met with Leah Wood and her family south of Calgary as they are making their way down to Disneyland. Dunstan and Leah’s four kids were an absolute riot and made my job quite fun.

What do you get when you mix a small town, some vintage cars and a ridiculously awesome family of six hailing from Peace River? A pretty awesome family session is what you get!

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Leah Wood‘s family as they came through town on their way to Disneyland! Lucky kids! I kind of wanted to climb onto the roof rack and go along for the ride!

Two Plus Two Toddlers – Calgary Family Photographer

Shauntel and I have been emailing back and forth since the beginning of the year hoping to set up a time for me to photograph her gorgeous family of four. But of course with travels, weather and life in general we finally got around to it. Thank goodness because it was a blast!

I first photographed Shauntel and Matt as a couple when I was first delving into photography and you can always be sure to have a good time with them. The fun is now doubled (or squared if you prefer)! We met at Nose Hill Park (where oddly enough neither of us had been) and wandered and took in the amazing light. Here is just a sampling of the day – the rest will be posted later this summer.

Family of Eight – Calgary Family Photographer

It was so nice yesterday morning to meet up with this wonderful family of eight in Glenmore Park. Each couple had traveled from one or the other reaches of Alberta to celebrate Len and Loreen’s 30th anniversary. I am so fortunate that they were willing to wade into such out of the way locations for their images and were way too much fun to hang out with. Thankfully the rain held off until a couple minutes of us wrapping up and made for a perfect Alberta summer day.

Family of Four – Calgary Family Photography

Jenn and I have been in contact numerous times for the past half year and were finally able to set up a date for their family shoot. All I can say is that this family is one you would want to be your next door neighbours. Not only are they completely and utterly connected to each other, but they know how to have a ton of fun.

It’s a hard job being beautiful! I just love real moments such as these.

When asked what his favourite book of all time was Jayden pulled out “Where the Wild Things Are” – good choice I must say! I haven’t had the chance to see the movie but fell in love with the book the first time I picked it up in my Grade 1 library.

Anna & Arun – Sneak Peek of a Calgary Couple Session

Have you ever met a couple where your heart kind of misses a beat when you see just how in love they are? Well I just did. I have known Anna for a year and a bit now as she is in the same program as myself at the University of Calgary and I have heard so many awesome things about her hubby of two years but had not had the chance to meet him until this past weekend when we all got up at the break of dawn (as opposed to my preferred break of noon) on a Saturday(!) for an early morning couple session.

When I was editing these few sneak peeks I couldn’t help but giggling to myself. If you know me you will know that I pretty much adore older folk. (You are probably wondering where this is going here, as these two are ridiculously young and good-lookin’ people!) Older people just have that aura about them, that experience, and ohmygoodness you meet the right one and they have that humor which will pretty much knock you off your feet. The one person that comes to mind when I ramble on about this topic is my Aunt Anita (well, really she is a Great-Aunt by marriage and Great-Great-Aunt’s daughter if you want to figure that one out go for it). She is coming on 89 later this year and she still drives around, does her own shopping, goes to all her appointments and get this… she is making plans to travel. Maybe to Europe, maybe across North America. Like, how amazing is that? When I am 89, if I even get there, I am just hoping I can still grip onto my wheelchair and go for spinnies!

So, where I was going with that. When I was going through these few images I could just envision Anna and Arun in 60 or 70 years time whipping around the old folks home together putting all the other grannies and grandpas to utter shame. There are a very few minority of couples that remain in a perpetual honeymoon stage and I am positive Anna and Arun are in this minority. I can’t wait to see where life takes them!

Story time! I don’t know why but guys have something for Zoolander. Not certain if this is Magnum or Blue Steel but Arun pulled it off ridiculously well. Anna was impressed as well quite obviously. Lucky girl ;) [update: it's magnum :) ]

Curtis and Cassidy – Calgary Sibling Photography

Umm.. okay. A few questions to start with. Since when was 14 year old not that awkward faze that we were all subjected to in which we all had acne covered faces, gangly limbs, and the inability to string a complete sentence together without either a) voice cracking or b) a stutter and complete lack of confidence? Since when was it fair for one family to be so ridiculously good looking? And (yes, I started a sentence with ‘and’) I don’t think it is possible to be as photogenic as these two. Yes, I know that isn’t a question. I really didn’t excel at grammar.

Curtis and Cassidy absolutely ROCKED this session. Honestly, they were up for all my silly and ridiculous ideas and were an absolute delight to work with :)

But enough waiting, now you gotta take a look. The two photogenic, awesomely smart and outgoing Curtis and Cassidy :)

So, I came to this sudden realization. I only photograph beautiful people. No seriously, I am pretty certain that Calgary has a 99:1 beauty to beast ratio (with me of course falling into the latter category, so, congratulations next 99 Calgarians who visit my blog… you are a beauty!)
