An Announcement

I would like to introduce something I will be doing annually starting now. Each year, I will donate an entire wedding package to a charitable organization as a way of giving back to the community and supporting the people who often go uncelebrated.  I love hearing what issues are close to peoples hearts and I will choose based on my time spent with the couple and learning about their passions and why an organization of their choice is deserving :)  The announcement will be made in the couples wedding blog post right here so keep checking back!  I really can’t wait to embark on this!

So! Let’s kick this thing off!  I am happy to announce that Katie and Tim‘s package will be the donation of 2009 and is going to a great organization in Thailand and Cambodia, Mercy Ministries Foundation.  Katie and I first became friends while helping out at the Chiang Saen Babies’ Home in the good ol’ days of 2006, and since, have both been back to volunteer solo (and I am certain there may be more to come!).  Instead of giving favours to the guests at the reception, Katie and Tim donated those funds, in addition to the ‘kiss-moolah’ as I so fondly refer to it, to the Foundation. (Nothing like kissing for a cause!)  There is no comparison to the joy the kids who live in the home share and  I doubt there is a more fulfilling duty then raising children with such vivaciousness for life.  I can hardly think of a better organization to get this thing rolling!

I dug out the photo album from our time in 2006 and scanned in some (very crumby) images.

The image on the left is of Katie and I directly after coming out from having our hair washed (complete with a head massage, oh how divine!), dried and straightened in Chiang Saen. When I mean straightened I mean stick straight. All for $3 (that is with a pretty big tip). As you can see, I step outside and my hair already started going frizzy. at the ends.  The image on the right is Katie with Rachel who she sponsors. :)

Here I am earlier this summer with just a few of the kids. :)

Keep checking back! In the new year (oh and you say that is a far way off. Believe me.. we will be there before you can say “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” — I always wanted an excuse to blog that word) I will be making another announcement :)

I can't wait to eventually meet you in person and would love to work with you in the future! Keep rocking at what you do best!

October 25, 2009 - 9:31 am Rachel - Brittany, you are way too rad for your own good! What a beautiful idea. It's giving me warm fuzzies this Sunday morning. You have a great heart and it comes across in more ways than in your photography!

October 25, 2009 - 10:53 am Terence - hey brittany, i love this idea...you've got a big heart and it definitely shows

October 25, 2009 - 11:56 am Danna - Britt....you are such a wonderful, giving person. I am happy to call you my friend!

October 29, 2009 - 10:40 am Michelle Wells - This is an awesome announcement Brittany! You are a wonderful person (with wonderful hair so stop whining about it). :) I love the self portrait too!

October 30, 2009 - 6:00 am Alan Hutchison - Well done for paying it forward. So generous.

October 30, 2009 - 10:11 am Kevin Mullins - That's very cool - I'm going to think about something like this for next year myself.

October 30, 2009 - 10:15 am Zack McFarland - Nice move Brittany! By the way, I cant help but notice that you arent wearing any slippers on your picture with your friend. Also, the slippers are facing the other way, so is it a custom in Chiang Saen (Thailand or Cambodia?) to leave slippers outside the building? Im just curious about their culture or maybe you had a footspa as well?

October 30, 2009 - 12:46 pm Brittany - Thanks so much everyone for the positive feedback! I honestly can't wait! :) It would be awesome if even more people did this too :) Zach - yes, it is customary in Thailand (and probably Cambodia.. can't say for certin though) to take off your shoes before entering any building so needless to say once I got home I would often be searching high and low for my footwear to discover it outside in the pouring rain ;) Took me a couple of weeks to 'rid' of that habit. Although it makes a ton of sense!

October 31, 2009 - 8:07 am Mark - jumpn - Great stuff.. Loved the self-portrait... now go garburate something :P

November 28, 2009 - 3:37 am Stefan Chirila - Awesome portraits and self portrait! I am enjoying your blog a lot. Will check it out more, expect more comments =)
